Why Does Burgers & Bands Feel Like A Celebration?

We are often asked why Burgers & Bands For Suicide Prevention feels like a celebration.  We are talking about a very serious subject, shouldn't the mood of the event be more somber?

The mood of the event is very much on purpose.

Before starting Burgers and Bands, Ethan and I would attend suicide prevention events to support the cause and every time we would end up in tears.  Every time, we would leave feeling hopeless.  The stories of loss were so overwhelming and at the time we were both struggling to believe that we would survive our own depression. We needed something more.

We needed an event that celebrated hope.  We needed an event that would help people see that they are truly not alone.  We wanted an event where the love of our community was completely obvious.

Love, Hope & Joy Caught On Film

That is what Burgers and Bands does.  I encourage you to have a look through the photos with these thoughts in mind.  Look for the love, hope and job in each photo. I know you will see it.

Our Community

I cannot imagine another event that could do this better.  Let me be clear about something though.  It isn't the event itself that is magical.  It is the community that comes out to support it.  It is the community that needed a way to express their hope and love and have grasped onto Burgers and Bands with both hands to do just that.  It is the community that is healing those who are in pain.  And for this I am incredibly grateful.  Thank you.

Sincerely,

Ann Brennan
